So Smart

Thank goodness for authors! Who knew so many would be willing to go on a Burger Adventure with me? And I was so happy when Ebony McMillan agreed to join me. Not only is she highly educated and currently working on another degree, but Ebony is also a seasoned author with dozens of titles under her belt. And she’s got a fantastic marketing scheme – recipe cards, shopping bags, bookmarks, notepads. Her stuff is everywhere making her very easy to remember. She even gifted me one of her books! Cherry Cola Dreams which I drank right up. A wonderful story of family, love, and lifelong dreams. A quick read with lots of feel good moments that put my overthinking head and erratically beating heart at ease. You should buy it right now. In fact, there’s a whole Allenville series, so you might as well buy them all.
In the Know
Ebony selected a local drive-in with the intention to prove that they had the best burgers anywhere. Serving hot dogs and ice cream for over 75 years, Augie & Ray’s has already proven itself to be pretty popular. Over the years, they expanded their menu to include breakfast, burgers, and a variety of other sandwiches and drinks. They are particularly famous for their chili – a closely guarded recipe that brings in folks from all over the state. I arrived at what looked like a long shack in the middle of nowhere and eagerly waited for Ebony to arrive. When she did a few moments later, she escorted me into the restaurant like she owned it (i don’t love this). Standing at the ordering counter with another counter behind for folks to eat, I gawked at the menu. I don’t know what my problem is, but whenever I’m faced with a menu on a board I get confused. This is why either Dan or one of the kids order for me when we stop for fast food during a road trip. Believe me, it’s easier for everyone, but mostly for me. Anyway, after Ebony ordered, I told the patient man behind the counter that I just wanted a plain burger with fries. Within moments our food was ready. Ebony then led me back outside to a covered picnic table area. Thank goodness! I was wondering how I was going to eat, talk, and take notes at the thin counter inside the shack.
