Open Face Turkey Sandwich
Not My Way
Steaming turkey covered in gravy laid atop two slices of white bread. Dan assessed the contents of his plate and quickly ordered a side of Buffalo wings. While he waited for his side, he loaded his fork and took his first bite. Disappointment. Despite the steam, the turkey wasn’t hot. He equated his meal to diner fare, but then decided that a diner was probably taste much better. He offered our daughter, Lynn, who was enjoying her loaded nachos, the little cup of cranberry sauce. She tried it and immediately made a face. And not a good face. She declared the cranberry sauce way too tart and lacking sugar. She also suggested that tasting cranberry sauce after eating a jalapeño might have affected her tasting experience. Dan’s sandwich came with a side of standard, nothing special fries, but then his eyes lit up as the Buffalo wings were set in front of him. However, the gleam in his eyes quickly dissipated as he realized his wings were plain. No sauce. No heat. Just mild. However, they were very, very good! Cruncy, juicy, and hot. Dan mused that these wings were probably a better choice since we had a long flight ahead of us. He would have liked to honor the wings with four stars, but that’s not how my system works.
