A Grand Plan
After nearly three years, I had run out of friends and family to con into meeting me for lunch so I could blog about it. Either that or they just aren’t interested. Regardless, I had a new plan: con authors into meeting me for lunch! I use the word “con” loosely because the authors are getting a much better deal than I am. For two hours of their time, they get a free lunch and shout outs in my blog, newsletter, and social media. As for me, I get a story to blog about and maybe some advice about publishing. I see it as a win-win.
Wonder Child

Kelly Ranalli was the first to answer my call. Having recently published her debut children’s book, she was eager to tell me all about it at Knuckleheads, a popular tap room on the main drag of Wallingford, Connecticut. The dark wood columns and beams along with gorgeous arched windows screamed history and I later learned that this location was a bank from 1921 to 1960 when it then housed town offices. Despite the restaurant name, Knuckleheads is full of smartness. From in-house hand ground beef to local produce, everything on the menu is fresh. Including the Magnificent Nick Sandwich. This is the brainchild of Kelly’s son, Nick. A special off-menu item, this crispy chicken sandwich is topped with lettuce, tomato, bacon and avocado sauce and is served with a side of mac and cheese.
Truly Amazing

The Magnificent Nick Sandwich is just the beginning of Nick’s stardom. He has a whole book written about him. Recently diagnosed with autism, Kelly sought out to write a children’s book from Nick’s perspective. The colorful illustrations and simple language make this book a helpful and educational tool for children and adults in understanding what it means to have autism. I strongly suggest ordering yourself a copy!
