Cluckin’ Cordon Bleu Sandwich
High Praise
Authors sit on a very high pedestal for me. I am an avid reader and, for me, meeting a real life author is akin to meeting an A-list celebrity. And if they’ve written a children’s book…well, that’s a whole new level of me fan-girling and stumbling on my words. I’ve been collecting children’s books since I was a child and when I earned a degree in elementary education, they became even more important. When Kelly answered my call for a Burger Adventure and I learned that she wrote a children’s book, I was immediately excited and extremely nervous. Writing a novel is hard enough, but writing a children’s book and creating images to help convey the story is genius.
High Approval
Kelly frequents Knuckleheads often. After all, they named a sandwich after her son and the owner, TJ, promotes her book and donates to local charities. The day of our Burger Adventure, she ordered the Cluckin’ Cordon Bleu with a side of Mac and Cheese. A unique take on traditional cordon bleu, this sandwich comes with a large piece of fried chicken topped with a slice of ham and Swiss cheese drizzled with a honey mustard sauce. She gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up, but mostly because I questioned her while she was still chewing. The crispy chicken sat inside a toasted bun and the menu description was true to its name. Kelly described the sandwich as if eating chicken cordon bleu, but as a sandwich. The spiral noodles in the macaroni and cheese were covered with a creamy sauce and was very hot which made Kelly very happy. Smiling throughout her lunch experience, she could only remark that the whole meal was very good. And that she was absolutely stuffed after eating the entire sandwich and half of the mac and cheese. She even ordered another meal to take home to her son, and I wondered if she was hoping he might share.
