Time to Get Away
Who doesn’t love a weekend away? I definitely do, and one of our favorite vacation spots is North Conway, New Hampshire. The mountains, the lakes, the food, and the shopping. There’s a ton of attractions for kids too, but now that we’re empty-nesters we skip those. We explore North Conway at least three times a year and love it more every time we visit. However, this trip was an extension of a visit with my best friend which included her daughter’s play. After an early hotel breakfast in Rochester, we scrambled into the car and trekked up north where The Grand Hotel and the outlets were waiting.
Test of Time

When we checked in, I balked about guests roaming around in their hotel robes. I kid you not. I was like, “Have these people never stayed in a hotel before?”. Once I recovered from the shock, which involved Dan asking me to calm down and explaining that most people were probably just wearing them as cover-ups for the pool (Still! 🤦♀️), we found our room and made a plan. A plan that involved shopping and I love shopping.
No Time to Lose

The best part of The Grand Hotel is the side door. The side door that opens up to Settlers Green Outlets. I love the outlets! And Dan loves the comfortable benches that allow him to play games on his phone while I spend his money😁 To be fair, he does enjoy poking around some of the shops like Levi, Columbia, and New Balance and he does spend a good chunk of change, too. I, however, have a purse problem and made a beeline to Kate Spade, then Coach, then Michael Kors. Nonetheless, I surprised Dan by only purchasing one purse on this trip. After roaming through the outlets, we drove down the main drag and got a prime parking spot in front of Zeb’s. By all means visit Zeb’s! Chocolates and candies as far as the eye can see. The upstairs loft features old-timey games, jigsaw puzzles, and other gifts. We each filled a small bag of treats to enjoy later at the hotel. A couple doors down from Zeb’s is The Penguin. The best way to describe this whimsical shop is to compare it to Spencer’s. A very upscale Spencer’s. It’s the type of store that forces you to squint your eyes and really search for the sarcastic sayings and inappropriate items that make you shake your head chuckle. And there are many sayings and items to laugh about.
Time to Eat

Especially tired from a full morning of shopping, we drove back toward the hotel stopping at The Muddy Moose for lunch. Of all the restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, The Muddy Moose is my absolute favorite. I’m pretty sure it’s because of the clever name and the cute moose mascot, but when you’re a person who really doesn’t love food in general, having a favorite restaurant is a pretty big deal. Every time we visit North Conway, we dine at The Muddy Moose at least once. In fact, every member of family has their favorite meal and drink and there are never any complaints. The spacious dining room sports skis and snowshoes, canoes and bear skins, deer and moose heads anchored to the wall. Large chandeliers made of antlers hang from the vaulted ceiling. A real fire glows from within the large stone fireplace. It’s inviting and comfortable and absolutely perfect.
