A picky eater with lots of allergies and her husband visit Newicks Lobster House.
Little Women
It was that time of year again for Dan and I to travel north to enjoy another performance at Oyster River High School. My best friend’s daughter had a starring role in the musical version of Little Women and I was so excited. It’s always a little tricky traveling to New Hampshire for opening night. Dan works from home until 3:30pm and then we have to fly through rush hour traffic in Boston. Luckily, Dan was able to take half a day and we arrived in Dover just in time for a late lunch, or lupper as my family likes to call a meal that is too late for lunch, but too early for supper.
At the Restaurant
So we drove down a secluded street and found Newick’s Lobster House at the end of it. The restaurant seemed too small to have a parking lot so huge, but looks are deceiving. We wandered into the nearly empty restaurant and marveled at the size. An endless sea of checkered topped tables with red padded chairs filled the room. I took at guess that Newick’s could easily seat 200 people, but I was wrong. Very wrong. The waitress boasted that Newick’s easily seats 600.
With a View
We enjoyed a beautiful view of a river. the sun breaking through the clouds and dancing on the current. I assumed it was the Oyster River as in the name of the high school we’d be visiting later, but I was wrong…again. Newick’s sits on the Piscataqua River and according to those dining near us, no one really knows where the Oyster River is. And that’s okay. This blog is about food not water ways. A large deck covered in lobster pots extended out into the river. Dan could barely contain his excitement – he knew his meal would be fresh.
