Lobster Roll Platter & New England Clam Chowder
Dabber

Lobster at a food court. That is something I would have never dared to try. Of course, lobster will kill me, but still. Dan is much braver than I am. The lobster roll was hot and buttery, just the way seafood lovers in southern New England enjoy them. Dan poked around his plate for a bit and then settled on trying the fries first. Surprisingly good. Coleslaw was next. Also quite good. However, Dan was sad about this. Something had to taste bad and the only thing left on the platter was the lobster roll. He took a deep breath and sunk his teeth into the toasted bun. “Wow”, he exclaimed. “It’s good. It’s really, really good! Not worth the money [$28.00], but it’s not bad.” And then he proceeded to gobble it up without another word.
Lucky Seven
I don’t know how Dan had more room left for chowder, but he was determined to try it. Still steaming after having sat on his tray for several minutes while he ate all the other components of his meal, he sunk his spoon into the thick broth. And then he frowned, complaining that the chowder could be hotter. I glared at him, but before I could reprimand him for eating it last, his tune changed. “Wow!” he exclaimed again. “There’s a lot of clams in here! And for a food court, this is really quite good! I’ve had worse chowders at fancy restaurants. There’s so many clams in here…” And then sunk his spoon back in and enjoyed every last morsel.
Near Miss
And then Dan scored his meal. A three. A three! I was so mad! I watched him gobble and slurp and smile and then he tells me his meal is only three stars!! Ugh! When I pressed for justification he claimed it was just okay. “Even after all the ‘yums’ and exclamations of goodness?” I had asked. He nodded. Apparently, he decided to divide the meal up into sections: the clam chowder and coleslaw were very good, but the lobster roll and fries were just okay. So, as a whole, the meal was just average. Ugh! This man…I will never understand his rating system, but as long as it’s in stars, I’ll just have to agree.
