The Long Ride
Our daughter, Lynn, just graduated college and we’re so excited! Well, we’re excited about the graduation, not the drive. Lynn chose to study at a university in South Carolina which is many miles and many hours from our home. Don’t get me wrong, the ride through the Pennsylvania hills, the Virginia farms, and the curvy North Carolina back roads are lovely, but the amount of time spent in the car with the wind whipping and the car shaking did not make the ride an easy one. We left the house at six in the morning and stopped at six in the evening exhausted and hungry.
Easy Breezy
Dan chose a hotel based on its access to a decent meal. In fact, the hotel he chose had a restaurant annexed right to it, so we could literally exit the elevator and mosey up to the hostess stand. And that’s exactly what we did. Checked in, brought our bag to our room, and went to the restaurant. I joked that perhaps I could wear my slippers, but Dan said that wouldn’t be appropriate. However, I did notice one woman in her bathrobe inquiring about the menu and another at the bar.
Twister
We were seated in a wood topped booth immediately and we sank into our seats barely able to keep our eyes open to read the menu. Happy for the quiet atmosphere, I enjoyed the soft country music and took note of the old western prints on the walls and the large sign touting the Alamo Hotel. The first thing I asked the waitress was if this restaurant was a chain. Other than me having to endure a hamburger, my most important Burger Adventure rule is No Chains. The waitress swore to me that this was the only Texas Steakhouse as far as the eye could see. Unfortunately, that information was incorrect. In fact, this is a chain with seven locations throughout North Carolina and West Virginia, but this is my blog and I suppose I can change the rules. So here we go.
