A picky eater with lots of allergies and her foodie husband review The Lighthouse Restaurant
Dan’s Dish
Fried Flounder and Shrimp
A Little Fishy
We didn’t have to wait long for our meals to be served since we were alone in the restaurant. Dan’s plate arrived overflowing with mildly hot food. He bit into the corn cob first and then promptly returned it to its little bowl. He removed the little bowl from the plate and set it aside stating the corn was overcooked, soft, and inedible. Happy with their jumbo size and crispy batter he swallowed up the shrimp and then decided to give the corn another try. As predicted it was still soft, but since we hadn’t had much in the way of fruits and vegetables on this trip, he decided to gnaw on the cob, chewing through each and every kernel. Next, he picked up a fry which hung limp between his fingers. Dan shrugged and stuffed the whole crinkle cut stick into his mouth then offered them to me. I eyed him suspiciously, but went ahead and tried one anyway. I’m not brave enough to smush the whole thing into my mouth and for that I am thankful. Cold, soggy, and soft – half a bite was enough for me. Dan reached for his knife and cut into the breaded flounder. The breading was good, the flounder was good. The skin still attached to the flounder was not so good and threw off his palate, but not having eaten since breakfast, he devoured it all.
Floundering
It is important to note that seven times out of ten, I am likely to experience some sort of stomach discomfort after eating at a restaurant. I expect this. I am comfortable with this. In fact, I have a variety of pills to help ease the pain of whatever food is at war with my stomach. This time, however, Dan got to experience the unpleasantness of bad food and was stuck in the bathroom for hours upon returning to the hotel. Unfortunately, none of my meds would soothe him. Maybe we should have gone to the shady looking Mexican restaurant after all!
