Firehouse Shrimp and Cheesesteak
Neither Fire, Nor Cracker
Dan’s Firecracker Shrimp arrived first nestled together in a small bowl. They were on the small side with a light breading. Each bite was spicy, but not too hot. They were breaded, but not crispy. In Dan’s opinion, the shrimp were just ok. He was expecting more from a high end restaurant, but wasn’t quite sure what those expectations were.
Chewy, but Popping
To my surprise, Lynn asked for a bite of Dan’s shrimp. She tends to be more on the picky side like me, but she definitely has expanded her foodie wings since starting college. She liked the taste, but the texture wasn’t what she expected. She described it as very chewy, but then there was an occasional hole, like an air pocket, that would pop in her mouth. Dan explained that that was simply shrimp texture and I just shrugged because I will never know what shrimp tastes like let alone its texture.
Too Small, but Just Right
When the Cheesesteak was placed in front of Dan he scowled. He is used to the large, fully meated subs with cheese oozing out that he gets at home in New England. To Dan, this sandwich didn’t stand out, although it was quite good and despite it’s small size he only ate about a third of it before declaring he didn’t have room for another bite. When the check arrived, he noted that for the price the sandwich was the perfect size for a late afternoon meal. I’m still unsure if he liked his meal or not…he just couldn’t seem to decide.

Burrata Caprese
Cheesy and Juicy
Lynn’s salad looked amazing! A variety of freshly sliced heirloom tomatoes covered the plate and a mound of fresh mozzarella proudly sat on top. All of it was doused in balsamic dressing which Lynn is not a fan of, but decided it wasn’t terrible. Lynn eagerly sliced the large baguette style garlic toast which had a nice char on it and created mini sandwiches, tomato juice and globs of cheese dripping onto her plate with each bite. It was a beautiful colorful mess and Lynn loved it. There was plenty left over, so we opted to take it back to the hotel in case she wanted a late night snack. Unfortunately, when Lynn removed the restaurant bag from the in-room fridge, liquid from the tomatoes, mozzarella, and dressing had seeped through the styrofoam take-home box creating a new type of mess. One that wasn’t so beautiful.
