A picky eater with lots of allergies and her husband review the Auburn Tavern

Fried Native Clams
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
Dan likes his seafood. A lot. Especially when we’re traveling and even more so when we’re near the ocean. Auburn is not near the ocean, but it’s close enough that Auburn Tavern can tout it fresh. Of course, Dan ordered the fried clams with onion rings and coleslaw. A platter mounded with clams and rings, Dan was ready to dig in. He raised his eyebrows at his first taste of the clams and nodded with delight. Very good, he exclaimed. Then he tasted an onion ring and his eyebrows shriveled. They tasted more frozen than the homemade rings he hoped for. Nothing special at all. Next, he sunk his fork into the coleslaw and his eyebrows pinched together. No good at all! Surely, it must be known that Dan is very picky about his coleslaw and this had way too much mayonnaise. That one forkful was more than enough so he proceeded to devour the clams. Like a greedy child, he barely came up for air until they were all gone. Inevitably, the huge portion and scrumptiousness of the clams saved the dish.
