Every spring, Dan and I travel up to New Hampshire to see my honorary niece perform in her high school musical. Sadly, she’s a Senior, so this is her last high school performance. Throughout the years, she’s portrayed Mrs. Potts (Beauty and the Beast), Aunt March (Little Women), and Rosie Mulligan (Mamma Mia), and performed masterfully. This year, she won the audience’s hearts again as Paulette Bonefonté in Legally Blonde.

For many New England colleges, this was the start of graduation weekend. So Dan and I started our day early, enjoying a slow and peaceful ride up to New Hampshire. We stopped for a late lunch at Ray’s Seafood Shack, a roadside seafood shack Dan had researched online a few days earlier before finding our hotel about thirty minutes from the high school. Ray’s Seafood Shack was exactly as expected: a huge menu board on the wall, counter service, pastel painted picnic tables, and buoys hanging on the walls. I thought it smelled a little fishy, but Dan gently reminded me that this was a seafood place, so I wandered between the picnic tables and selected the one furthest away from the kitchen while Dan waited for our tray of food.
