Bugging Out

I’m not a fan of sitting outside, but that’s what Barbara preferred so that’s what we did. I have reasons though. Vitiligo for one. A sun sensitivity that makes it particularly dangerous for me to enjoy the warmth of the sun. Luckily, we sat in the shade. The other main reason I don’t care for the outside is the bugs. And the bug that bothered me on this day was like no other I have ever seen. Large and red with long black legs. It jumped from nowhere onto my notebook, then onto my plate, then onto my hand. At that point I was having an internal panic attack doing my best not to scream and be ousted from Greenwich forever. Apparently, this is a Red Lantern Bug. Such a menace to society, destroying crops and trees, that posted signs advise killing them at first sight. Fortunately for this bug, I was frozen in fear so he lived to jump another day.
A Sigh of Relief
Once I recovered from the Red Lantern Bug, I took a bite of my burger. Even though it was a Make Your Own Burger with a variety of toppings to choose from, I chose plain – nothing but a burger and a bun. Once I recovered from the several moments of intense alarm mixed with sincere curiosity, my burger was still surprisingly hot. Like super hot. The bottom bun was literally too hot to hold. I took advantage of taking notes about Barbara’s meal while waiting for mine to cool and when it did…wow! The burger was tender, yet devoid of cow juice. Perfectly cooked on a nicely buttered and soft brioche bun. Even the bun to patty ratio was impeccable. The fries were crispy, hot, and barely seasoned – perfection! And the price was exceptionally cheap which was surprising for this expensive town. Was it The Little Pub or dining in Greenwich that made this burger stand out? I may never know, but I do wish Little Pub would open a shack closer to me.
